Reverend David Bass
Pastor Dave was born and grew up in Jefferson Park area of Chicago. He grew up in the city and attended Farnsworth Elementary and Taft High School , graduating in 1995. After graduating High School he enlisted in the United States Army and served three years on active duty. His tour of duty ended with a honorable discharge in June of 1998. After returning home from the Army, he worked as a laborer in the construction industry before continuing undergraduate studies at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, Illinois and St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. While attending St. Norbert, he met Katy Grimes, a Texas native who was working on her undergraduate degree at Concordia University, Chicago. She was completing her education to become a Director of Christian Education and was fulfilling her internship year as DCE at St. Mark Lutheran Church, in Kentwood, Michigan. Pastor Dave transferred from St. Norbert to Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Michigan to be closer to Katy. Both he and Katy both graduated from their respective Concordia Universities in May of 2003, Katy with her Bachelors Degree as a Director of Christian Education with a focus on children and family ministry and Dave with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.Katy and Dave were married in May of 2003 and in the fall, he began his studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri.He served his vicarage year at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Union, Illinois and accepted his first call from the Seminary as Associate Pastor to Katy’s home church, Holy Cross Lutheran, Nederland, Texas.In February of 2008, they were blessed with the arrival of their first child, Anna. Katy’s nieces, Chloe and Bethany also live with Katy and Dave after their mother passed away in June of 2008.After serving Holy Cross Lutheran as Associate Pastor for almost four years, Pastor Dave accepted the Divine Call to serve as Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was installed as Pastor on June 26, 2011. The Bass family looks forward to serving the children of God at St. Paul and are excited about the future of Christ’s ministry in the Chicago area! In their free time they enjoy spending time with Anna, Chloe and Bethany, visiting museums and zoos and all other kid-friendly activities. Katy enjoys cooking and baking and sewing and Dave enjoys reading, gardening and an occasional game of golf.

Director of Children and Youth Ministry
Julianna Shults
Julianna Shults was born in El Toro, CA, and moved to Kansas when she was four. She grew up in Topeka, KS with parents, Rick and Marilyn, and two younger siblings, Christina and Alex. Julianna was a Topeka Lutheran School Wildcat and a Topeka West High School Charger. She was a band geek, and worked at a number of interesting jobs including Dairy Queen and Old Navy. Julianna attended Concordia University in Seward, NE and graduated in 2004 with a BA in Psychology and Director of Christian Education Certification with an emphasis in youth and family ministry. In August of 2004, Julianna started an internship at Hope Lutheran Church in Plant City, FL. Even after three hurricanes, she accepted the call to serve as DCE and was greatly blessed by the congregation. In June of 2008, Julianna accepted the call to St. Paul to serve as Director of Children and Youth Ministry. Yes, she realizes Chicago has cold winters where Florida does not. God has a crazy sense of humor, and has led Julianna to be a speaker at the 2007 LCMS National Youth Gathering, 2007 National Lutheran Educators Association Convocation, the 2006 Fl-Ga Jr. High District Gathering, and the 2007 Fl-Ga Sr. High District Gathering. In 2005 one of her devotions was published in the book Hindsight. Julianna is currently the Pop Culture blogger at www.youthesource.com Julianna loves to knit and watch television in her free time. She drinks entirely too much coffee and doesn’t like to do dishes. She loves to spend time talking with all sorts of new people. Julianna loves bookstores, Blockbuster, blogging, and baked goods.
