6th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
For Internationals

The St. Paul congregation was blessed once again to host international visitors to a wonderful holiday event on November 16th. Students and others joined with members of our congregation to meet, talk, play, and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with all of the trimmings. About 75 people participated. Attendees included students enrolled in college on a one-year visa and some who work on a college staff. Their respective homelands are mainland China and Taiwan. Most of the students are regular visitors to the Friendship House in Chicago operated by the Cross Cultural Conversations ministry. That is where they can talk in the English language with American volunteers. Many of those volunteers were at the dinner too. Conversations with international visitors can be a great way to initiate friendships and build relationships with the students while they are in this country – friendships and relationships that lead to sharing the saving message of Jesus Christ.

5th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
For International Students

Members of St Paul Lutheran Church & School are happy to count among our friends a diverse group of residents and visitors from around the world.  This fact was plain for all to see at our annual International Thanksgiving Dinner.  We hosted over 85 people representing 8 countries at the 2007 event.  In addition to the Americans, also present were guests from mainland China, Taiwan, Syria, Lebanon, Japan, Mexico and Vietnam.  Our past events have included guests from northern Africa and the Korean peninsula.  Many of the attendees are visiting university students and some are new immigrants.  Everyone enjoyed Christian fellowship, games, a little Thanksgiving history lesson, plus a wonderful meal with turkey, ham, and all of the trimmings.

The Fifth Annual Camping Trip
for International Students
July 14-15th, 2007
Walcamp Outdoor Ministries

International Student Ministry Camping Trip

On July 14 and 15, International Students from local Chicago colleges, joined us for the unique American experience of camping. We drove to Walcamp in Kingston, Illinois to enjoy their facilities. We shared many American experiences with the Asian students, including archery, cooking over a campfire, canoeing, fishing, and making s'mores. The highlight of the trip for many was when the St. Paul Praise Band put on a concert on Saturday evening. Many friendships were made, and lasting memories for everyone who participated, occurred.

Cookout for International Students

The St. Paul congregation hosted a picnic for international students on July 1st at the church and school grounds.  Our theme was "USA Independence Day" and we treated our special guests to an American-style holiday with food and games.  The students attend the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Some are working on post-graduate degrees in management and others are in the medical field.  Some of the students are from mainland China and others are from the island of Taiwan.  All have a connection in some way to the Friendship House of the Chicagoland International Student Ministry.  It was good to hear that many of the students who attended the picnic, plus others, will be attending a camping trip sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran Church & School on July 14th and 15th

Let's Go CAMPING

We had an awesome opportunity to once again build relationships with Chinese students. There are many students from China who come to Chicago for one year to study at UIC or IIT. Our 4th Annual International Student Ministry Camping Trip was held July 14-16, 2006 in Indiana.

Here's a picture from the game with the Kane County Cougars on April 7th, 2006. Students from mainland China and Taiwan endured freezing temperatures to experience their first American baseball game. The game was fundraising event for Lutheran Special Education Ministries. St. Paul will be sponsoring a trip for the students to see the Schaumberg Flyers on June 3rd.
