This is a ministry to students from other lands, especially those where we have no missionaries, such as China.  The students return and bring their faith to their homeland.  The NID has outreach ministries at the University of Illinois, Chicago, Northwestern, Evanston, and Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.

St Paul has become part of this ministry by sponsoring events for Chinese students

5th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
For International Students

Members of St Paul Lutheran Church & School are happy to count among our friends a diverse group of residents and visitors from around the world.  This fact was plain for all to see at our annual International Thanksgiving Dinner.  We hosted over 85 people representing 8 countries at the 2007 event.  In addition to the Americans, also present were guests from mainland China, Taiwan, Syria, Lebanon, Japan, Mexico and Vietnam.  Our past events have included guests from northern Africa and the Korean peninsula.  Many of the attendees are visiting university students and some are new immigrants.  Everyone enjoyed Christian fellowship, games, a little Thanksgiving history lesson, plus a wonderful meal with turkey, ham, and all of the trimmings.

The Fifth Annual Camping Trip

Walcamp Outdoor Ministries

International Student Ministry Camping Trip

On July 14 and 15, International Students from local Chicago colleges, joined us for the unique American experience of camping. We drove to Walcamp in Kingston, Illinois to enjoy their facilities. We shared many American experiences with the Asian students, including archery, cooking over a campfire, canoeing, fishing, and making s'mores. The highlight of the trip for many was when the St. Paul Praise Band put on a concert on Saturday evening. Many friendships were made, and lasting memories for everyone who participated, occurred.

Cookout for International Students

The St. Paul congregation hosted a picnic for international students on July 1st at the church and school grounds.  Our theme was "USA Independence Day" and we treated our special guests to an American-style holiday with food and games.  The students attend the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Some are working on post-graduate degrees in management and others are in the medical field.  Some of the students are from mainland China and others are from the island of Taiwan.  All have a connection in some way to the Friendship House of the Chicagoland International Student Ministry.  It was good to hear that many of the students who attended the picnic, plus others, will be attending a camping trip sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran Church & School on July 14th and 15th

ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER FOR CHINESE STUDENTS
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2006 4:00PM

What an amazing opportunity for us at St. Paul!

Once again we hosted a Thanksgiving Dinner for the Chinese students
from various universities in the Chicago area.
This is a great way to establish friendships with these students while they are in this country -
relationships that will lead to sharing the saving message of Jesus Christ.

Let's Go CAMPING

We had an awesome opportunity to once again build relationships with Chinese students. There are many students from China who come to Chicago for one year to study at UIC or IIT. Our 4th Annual International Student Ministry Camping Trip was held July 14-16, 2006 in Indiana.

Here's a picture from the game with the Kane County Cougars on April 7th, 2006. Students from mainland China and Taiwan endured freezing temperatures to experience their first American baseball game. The game was fundraising event for Lutheran Special Education Ministries. St. Paul will be sponsoring a trip for the students to see the Schaumberg Flyers on June 3rd.
